There's so much wisdom, generosity, hope, and love in the story of how Nelson Mandela took his little grandson into his home and guided him on the journey to becoming a man. Ndaba's story starts during apartheid, his granddad in prison, the whole country in the middle of bloody conflict. The child's-eye view of all the violence and racism is gut-wrenching, and even though Ndaba had an amazing life with Mandela, his family was terribly damaged by apartheid. He talks about systemic racism, progress, politics and fatherhood using African folk tales and the stories of his grandfather. Highly recommending for schools, libraries, families, and everybody I can think of. The author is cool and funny and a great storyteller like his grandfather. He seems like a really a remarkable person who is out to change the world. I hope every young person in the US reads this book. And every old person. And every person in between.

This was chosen by my book club. An interesting insight into South africa’s apartheid and Nelson Mandela and his family.
Ndaba Mandela shares a candid and unflinching story about growing to know and love his grandfather. An amazing account of a life journey that still has so far to go. Looking forward to seeing how he will take in ever greater leadership roles.
The love and respect of Ndaba for his GrandPa Madiba is touching.
I have been in South Africa several times and know what this book is about.
Madiba was a great man who left a fantastic legacy to his country.

As an African Nelson Mandela was like a hero, legend and grandfather all in one! This book made me fall in love all over again and miss him even more! I got the version after a friend, who is also friend of the author recommended it!
